Exercise 1: Introductions

Instructions

Step 1

Develop a one minute, stand-up introduction for yourself to formally present to the class.

Be in Charge of Your Introduction

ESTABLISH YOUR CREDENTIALS

  • Share WHO you are personally and professionally

  • HOW you want to further your growth and development

  • Share pertinent knowledge, skills, and experience that you bring

  • Share WHAT you hope to get out of this training

CREATE A POSITIVE LEARNING ENVIRONMENT

  • “Work the Crowd” by making eye contact (softening it with a smile) with at least six participants. Talk only with that person while making contact. The group will feel more comfortable, and you will also relax, knowing you now have friends in the audience. (if you are recording your introduction, look into the camera, and “see” the audience.)

  • Indicate Your Trustworthiness - by talking about your preparation efforts; by sharing a relevant belief system; by presenting your goals; or by talking openly about your struggles when you faced this same challenge.

  • Demonstrate Enthusiasm - It’s catching! Let your body language, your facial expressions, and your voice tone tell everyone that you feel very confident about what is to unfold.

BE IN COMMAND

  • At this Point in the training experience, when you face the audience, the participants want YOU to be in control - Indicate this by being visibly prepared; by appearing calm and self-confident.

  • Take charge of your introduction and everyone will settle in with confidence about what you will have to offer as the session unfolds.

Step 2

Share your introduction in a comment below.
